By using BOM Info, you can bring additional information into your BOM, providing actionable information for you to make better decisions about part selection, part classification, and other important decisions. The data BOM Info brings includes lifecycle status, datasheets, and description. Additionally, it supports our ‘Suggest MPN by Description’ feature.
Lifecycle Status - identify potential issues on the BOM by running BOM Info to pull lifecycle status. Any line with a potential issue will automatically be flagged with a warning symbol so that you can take action.
MPN Description Analysis - Compare the description imported with your BOM to the description returned for the MPNs when running BOM Info. Using this feature, you'll be able to review any potential discrepancies in the descriptions when validating the customer's BOM.
MPN Datasheets - Get everything there is to know about a part through the linked datasheet.
Description from MPN - You can also substitute the description imported with the supplier description - and yes, you can even substitute a blank imported description.
Suggest MPN from Description – If you have a BOM without an MPN, you can also get a suggestion based on the description. Suggestions from description will be paired with a ‘lightbulb’ icon to make it clear suggestions are not from the original BOM. Learn more about this feature here: Suggest MPN by Description
Using BOM Info:
After uploading your BOM select 'Actions' and then select 'BOM Info'. This will begin the process. Note: This process may take a few minutes.
When BOM Info is complete you will receive a green notification, as demonstrated below.
MPN description analysis and Description from MPN
After BOM info completes, you may see an icon similar to two sheets of paper in the description field. This indicates that you can compare the given description with the one gathered from the supplier website. When you click the paper icon, a popup will appear which compares the listed description with supplier description and you can add the supplier description. This also enables you to add a description to lines without a description. This can help you determine part class, leader, attrition, and labor activities.
Note: if the supplier description is selected, it will be in green text to make it clear that the description is provided by the supplier and not from the original BOM.
Lifecycle status
After running BOM info, MPNs with lifecycle status concerns will be flagged with a warning symbol to indicate potential risks. This enables you to identify alternates or otherwise be proactive with your part selection and decisions right from the BOM stage. Note: This is determined based on information shared by the supplier, so may not be comprehensive.
See the indicator for lifecycle risk below:
MPN Datasheets
After running BOM Info, you may see a gray paper icon - this will link to the datasheet for an MPN. This can save substantial time relative to going to supplier websites for each MPN.
The icon will resemble the one below:
We hope that this data will allow you to make better and faster decisions. BOM Info is available at the Advanced and Enterprise tiers. Please contact your account manager if you'd like to learn more.
