QuoteCQ: How to filter for my 20/80 Costed BOM

Learn how to leverage the Auto Select function to filter BOM line items based on their cost contribution within the overall BOM.

When managing a complex Bill of Materials (BOM), it’s often helpful to focus on the components that have the highest cost impact. The Auto Select Bid Lines feature allows users to efficiently filter line items based on their value relative to the entire costed BOM. This can be particularly useful when prioritizing sourcing decisions, optimizing spend analysis, or identifying key cost drivers. In this article, we’ll explore how to use Auto Select to isolate the most significant items—such as those that contribute to 80% of the total BOM cost—so you can streamline your analysis and focus on what matters most.

Stage 1: Navigate to the AutoSelect Bid Lines function

In the Material Costing tab, click in ActionsBid Sheets AutoSelect Bid Lines

Stage 2: Set the filter logic

The application will open a pop-up screen.

Select the Leading Cost % Filter, and the logic Greater than or equal to  and the desired percentage you want to filter for.

Click on Submit.

Stage 4: Review the selected lines and make decisions

After submitting, the lines with the highest cost, according to the filters you set, will be automatically selected.

Now you can make decisions on these lines specifically, navigating through the options in the Edit menu: updating the API pricing available, making new selections with different criteria, sending new Bid Sheets, etc.
